Garden - I feel more whole in a garden; sometimes I feel alone in a garden.
Bride Rising – As she is rising, she is holding on to the red roses representing love and blood, and letting go of earth and dirt. Behind her a horizon and below her forces which would work to hold her down, soil her gown, expose her – but she is the Bride of Christ and is looking up. [My wife is my model for this].
o death where is your sting? - memento mori: a reminder of death
11th hour – Some build their homes and hopes within the gears of time, while others find a hole through time into the freedom of eternity.
Revelation 12 (and a portrait of my wife in the year of the Dragon) – I thought I might understand this passage of Scripture better if I were to paint it. This was also the year that my wife was pregnant, and in Chinese culture, a dragon year.
God’s Wings – Man’s Wings – There is a way to read this (counter clockwise from the top right panel around) which sums up the entire story of the Bible. I did not intend to paint this, but only discovered it after completion. This was a painting in which I was truly led by the Spirit into a creative learning process.
Body, Soul, Spirit - We are created a little lower than the Angels, but are given dominion over the animals. Like the angels we have an eternal Spirit – dealing with our allegiance with God or not. Like the animals, have a body made of earth. Common to all of us is the 'soul' – the mind, will, emotions… the place of dreams, emotions, free will and art. Angels do not have a body, and animals do not have a Spirit, but humans have all three - as though we are called to be ministers between heaven and earth - ministers of reconciliation.
Baptism – What can wash away my sin? The red represents Christ’s love, His blood and the way to eternal life as it flows down and washes over sin to make new.
A tree where many birds can rest: Matthew 13:32 - the Kingdom if Heaven is like…
Thank you God for this food – the most fundamental of prayers (a grateful acknowledgement and response to our utter dependence on Him) can be applied to more than just food.
Parable of the soils: Mark 4 – this is best read from the lower panels upward – the same direction that seeds grow if they find good soil.
Holy and Homologous - As a follower of Christ, theories of evolutionary biological process as a Theistic creative process interest me. They do not threaten Scriptural authority, Christ’s preeminence, nor the Creative sovereignty of God. Let the bones say what they say and let the Word speak for itself.
The color red is my protection – this piece is about how fear is eliminated with Christ as our protector.
Greed Crab - another story of greed
